About the position

At NIKE, Inc., we are looking for an enthusiastic and innovative Data & Machine Learning Engineer Intern to join our Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Group. This internship is designed to provide a unique experience that showcases what it is like to work at Nike full-time. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to apply your machine learning and engineering expertise to improve existing algorithms and develop new ones. You will work collaboratively in multi-functional teams, supporting various groups engaged in science or science-engineering-related projects. The ideal candidate is a leader with a strong interest in developing complex data solutions and end-to-end solution design. You should be passionate about data, enjoy uncovering relationships between disparate data sets, and thrive in a dynamic environment. This role requires a creative thinker who is excited by the challenge of building innovative solutions from the ground up, utilizing the latest technologies in statistical, unsupervised, supervised, and AI models to achieve organizational goals. Intern project examples include integrating machine learning within our technologies to enhance incident resolution, scaling innovation teams to meet sustainability goals through computer vision and robotics, and ensuring equitable access to Nike's technology for individuals with disabilities using AI. This internship is located in person at the NIKE, Inc. World Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, providing a vibrant and collaborative work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Apply machine learning and engineering expertise to improve existing algorithms.
  • Research and develop new algorithms leveraging core concepts of AI/ML.
  • Collaborate in multi-functional teams to support science or science-engineering-related work.
  • Integrate machine learning within technologies to identify and resolve incidents efficiently.
  • Support sustainability goals through the use of computer vision and robotics.
  • Ensure equitable access to technology for individuals with disabilities using AI.

Requirements

  • Enrolled in an undergraduate program in computer science, mathematics, statistics, or a related technical subject area with an expected graduation date between Winter 2025 or Spring/Summer 2026.
  • 0-2 years of work experience.
  • Knowledge of Python, SQL, and Tableau.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML techniques such as neural networks, tree ensembles, and regressions.
  • Deep understanding of data structures and algorithms.
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, testing, and analytical skills.
  • Ability to quickly learn new programming languages, technologies, and frameworks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with agile methodologies.
