About the position

The NOC Engineer at Dobson Fiber is responsible for maintaining the integrity and reliability of the production network. This role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing various network products and services, ensuring optimal performance for clients. The NOC Engineer collaborates with internal teams, equipment vendors, and facility providers to resolve network issues, while providing excellent communication and support in a 24/7 operational environment.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and troubleshoot network impairments and outages with LECs, IXCs, vendors, and internal departments.
  • Utilize the ServiceNow ticketing system for documentation and escalations.
  • Follow escalation policies within SLAs and read/interpret CLR/DLRs.
  • Monitor network alarm systems to detect service outages and degradation.
  • Perform fault analysis and remediation in switching, digital, optical, and other technologies.
  • Document all alerts and actions taken during core network events.
  • Act as a Single Point of Contact for high-risk service-impacting events.
  • Interface with customers, engineers, vendors, and technicians to resolve trouble reports.
  • Provide technical assistance during service-impacting network events.
  • Perform maintenance activities such as configuration changes and hardware upgrades.
  • Train NOC Tier I & II engineers on processes and technologies.
  • Work on additional projects as needed.

Requirements

  • 2-3+ years' experience in a NOC environment in the telecommunications industry.
  • 1-2 years of communication experience with other Carrier NOCs.
  • Cisco CCNA or equivalent certification.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of IP protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Spanning Tree, and ISIS.
  • Experience with CWDM/DWDM theories and troubleshooting wavelengths.
  • Knowledge of platforms: Calix, Nokia, Ciena, Juniper, and others.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting SONET and Layer 1-3 faults.
  • Familiarity with network troubleshooting tools such as ping, traceroute, and SNMP.
  • Ability to acknowledge multiple network alerts and assess customer impact.
  • Experience performing circuit testing procedures and using test equipment.
  • General understanding of fiber optics and OTDR information.

  • Microsoft, A+, or MCP certification.
