About the position

The Non Certified Ophthalmic Assistant plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare providers in an ambulatory setting. This position involves obtaining patient medical histories, performing diagnostic tests, and providing patient education and services under the supervision of physicians and technicians. The role requires effective communication skills and the ability to provide age-specific care to a diverse patient population.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare providers in the ambulatory setting.
  • Obtain patient past and present ocular and general medical history.
  • Perform visual acuity and diagnostic testing under supervision.
  • Conduct tests including visual field testing, keratometry, pachymetry, and intraocular pressure checks.
  • Scribe for physicians and provide other patient services as requested.
  • Support a learning environment and take responsibility for self-development.
  • Comply with all policies and standards regarding patient information.

Requirements

  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required).
  • 1+ years experience in a healthcare environment (Preferred).
  • Basic understanding of contact lens usage (Required proficiency).
  • Ability to work independently in a high-stress environment (Required proficiency).
  • Demonstrated skill in interpersonal relationships (Required proficiency).
  • Basic computer skills and use of general office equipment (Required proficiency).

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire (Preferred).
