About the position

The Non-Destructive Testing/Quality Control Inspector at Brookhaven National Laboratory is responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of various components and systems through non-destructive testing methods. This role involves utilizing advanced inspection techniques and tools to assess materials and structures, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The inspector will work closely with the Fabrication Services Group, contributing to a wide range of projects that support the scientific community.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct non-destructive testing using various techniques such as Computed Radiography, Visual, Ultrasonic Testing, and Liquid Dye Penetrant.
  • Inspect components and systems for compliance with geometric tolerancing and safety standards.
  • Utilize Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and CAD programs for precise measurements and modeling.
  • Perform vacuum leak checking and hydrostatic testing as required.
  • Maintain required certifications and stay updated with inspection techniques and safety practices.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders regarding inspection results and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Technical institute or associate's degree in a related scientific or technical field.
  • 6 years of relevant work experience in non-destructive testing or quality control.
  • Fully knowledgeable of Geometric Tolerancing terminology.
  • Proficient computer skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Good communication skills and familiarity with safe working practices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with CMM and solid modeling capability.
  • Familiarity with CAD programs such as AutoCAD.
  • Welding inspection CWI experience and understanding of welding terminology.
  • Certifications in Computed Radiography, Visual, Ultrasonic Testing, and Liquid Dye Penetrant and Magnetic Particle inspection techniques.
  • Experience with vacuum leak checking and hydrostatic testing.
