About the position

Chewy is currently seeking a Non-Inventory Area Manager for Procurement at our fulfillment center in Wilkes-Barre, PA. This role is pivotal in managing procurement operations, specifically focusing on the purchase of non-inventory products and base building services. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in assessing inventory, reviewing pricing, and coordinating purchases effectively. As we continue to grow rapidly, this individual must thrive in a fast-paced environment and be adept at navigating ambiguity and change. Attention to detail is crucial, as the role involves driving improvements on a daily basis. In this position, you will serve as the primary on-site procurement contact, providing essential support for fulfillment center operations. You will lead a team of over four non-inventory receivers across multiple shifts, ensuring that procurement processes are executed efficiently. The role is responsible for managing over $30 million in yearly purchases of non-inventory goods and services, which includes leading capital expenditure projects with purchase orders ranging from $10,000 to over $15 million. Daily inventory counts will be a key responsibility, allowing you to analyze and forecast future needs accurately. As a subject matter expert in indirect spend, you will partner with internal customers, such as the Finance Manager and General Manager, to influence spending decisions positively. You will also work closely with vendors and suppliers to identify cost-saving opportunities and establish necessary agreements and contracts. Problem-solving will be a significant aspect of your role, requiring quick and precise responses to supplier performance issues and internal delivery challenges. You will maintain procurement files and ensure compliance with safety responsibilities to foster a safe working environment. This position may also involve completing supply chain and network-level projects as designated.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site procurement contact for fulfillment center operations.
  • Lead a team of 4+ non-inventory receivers across multiple shifts.
  • Manage over $30M+ yearly in purchases of non-inventory goods and services.
  • Lead capital expenditure projects with purchase orders ranging from $10k to over $15M.
  • Complete daily inventory counts to analyze and forecast future needs.
  • Become a subject matter authority in areas of indirect spend.
  • Partner with internal customers to influence spending decisions and track savings.
  • Work with vendors to provide cost savings and establish contracts.
  • Problem-solve supplier performance and delivery issues.
  • Complete indirect inventory ordering through a P2P cloud-based system.
  • Maintain on-site procurement files and ensure safety responsibilities are met.
  • Complete project initiatives by collaborating with multiple departments.

Requirements

  • Education in Business or related field OR 5+ years in a related field.
  • 2+ years of procurement experience in a fulfillment center or related area.
  • 1+ years of experience leading onsite teams.
  • 1+ years in vendor management, including negotiating and expediting services.
  • Sophisticated analytics and advanced Excel skills, including data analysis through formulas and pivot tables.
  • Strong interpersonal and multitasking skills to manage multiple high-priority items.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for effective problem-solving.
  • Ability to adjust hours to meet with both day and night teams.
  • Exhibit the highest levels of integrity and ethics.
