About the position

The Non-profit Security Grant Program Lead Specialist position at the Colorado Department of Public Safety (CDPS) is a full-time role focused on managing and monitoring federal and state grant programs related to public safety. This position is situated within the Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management (DHSEM), which is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of Colorado through comprehensive emergency management and homeland security initiatives. The primary responsibilities include compliance monitoring reviews to ensure adherence to grant regulations, assessing grant objectives and deliverables, and reviewing fiscal and programmatic reports. The role also involves providing technical assistance to grant recipients, processing reimbursement requests, and facilitating training for state and local staff on program requirements. As the main point of contact for one or more preparedness grants, the Lead Specialist will coordinate meetings with local partners and make decisions regarding grant applications and reimbursements. Additionally, the position may require providing operational support during state-declared disasters and participating in the State Emergency Operations Center's training and exercise programs. The work environment is primarily sedentary, with a standard schedule of 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday, and a hybrid work model after training, allowing for both in-office and remote work. Responsibilities

  • Assist the Subrecipient Monitoring Section Supervisor with compliance monitoring reviews of federal and state grant programs.
  • Administer all phases of preparedness grants, including providing technical assistance to grant recipients and processing reimbursement requests.
  • Monitor project progress and milestones to ensure timely completion of projects within the performance period.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for one or more preparedness grants, coordinating meetings with local partners and making decisions regarding applications and reimbursements.
  • Provide operational support to the State Emergency Operations Center during state-declared disasters as directed.
  • Assist in training state and local staff on program requirements and grant regulations.

Requirements

  • Seven (7) years of demonstrated full-time professional experience in grants or accounting or finance administration that included monitoring or administering grants or other restricted funds.
  • Strong MS Office/Excel skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in grant-related matters.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
