About the position

The Nondestructive Evaluation Engineer at Bechtel Plant Machinery, Inc. (BPMI) is responsible for performing technical functions to support operations related to nondestructive evaluation (NDE) methods. This role involves engineering evaluations, analyses, and decision-making for naval nuclear hardware, including planning, modeling, and developing NDE techniques. The engineer will also conduct inspections, analyze results, and resolve technical issues, ensuring the technical excellence of the company within the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.

Responsibilities

  • Develop technical knowledge and skills in nondestructive testing (NDT) methods and applications.
  • Develop and apply NDT techniques to support technical evaluations and problem resolutions.
  • Participate in NDT inspection development or feasibility projects involving BPMI, NNL, shipyards, suppliers, and NAVSEA.
  • Participate in laboratory, manufacturing, and in-service inspections utilizing various NDT techniques.
  • Support the preparation of technical reports or procedures in accordance with NR program quality standards.
  • Prepare letters to the Government providing technical information and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of four (4) years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree may be considered in lieu of some experience.
  • A relevant Associate's degree may be considered with a minimum of eight (8) years of relevant experience.
  • Requires a security clearance; ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with NDT methods, primarily ultrasonic testing, including liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, or radiography.
  • Experience in solid modeling using CAD software.
  • Experience with mechanical systems.
  • Ability to climb ladders or traverse steep staircases.
  • Ability to travel to field inspection sites via air for extended durations (generally 1-3 weeks).
  • Willingness to work in ambient temperatures (hot or cold).
  • Willingness to work in tight spaces for 8+ hours.
  • Willingness to work in an industrial setting.
