About the position

The Development Specialist at Project HOPE Boston, Inc. plays a crucial role in supporting the organization's fundraising efforts, primarily focusing on grant writing and donor development. This position involves conducting grant research, drafting proposals, managing submission timelines, and engaging with donors to help achieve the nonprofit's funding goals. The role is ideal for candidates with strong research and writing skills, previous experience in fundraising or grant writing, and a commitment to the mission of advancing housing stability and economic mobility for families in Roxbury and North Dorchester.

Responsibilities

  • Support the planning and execution of annual giving campaigns, appeals, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Draft compelling donor communications, such as appeal letters, thank-you notes, and impact updates.
  • Assist in identifying and cultivating potential major donors and fostering long-term donor relationships in collaboration with the Director and board members.
  • Research and identify grant opportunities that align with organizational goals.
  • Develop, write, and submit grant proposals to private foundations, corporations, and government entities.
  • Manage grant calendars, track submission timelines, and ensure timely completion of grant reports and renewals.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Director and program managers to gather and update programmatic details, budget information, and impact metrics.
  • Assist in planning and executing fundraising events and activities, including managing logistics, vendor relations, and event promotion.
  • Collaborate with staff and volunteers to ensure events align with organizational goals and resonate with donors.
  • Track donor information, contributions, and engagement activities using CRM software (Salesforce experience mandatory).
  • Ensure compliance with funding agreements, reporting requirements, and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Human Service Nonprofit Management, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, grant writing, or donor development.
  • Excellent research, writing, and editing skills with a proven ability to craft compelling proposals.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and CRM platforms (Salesforce experience is mandatory).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with team members, board members, and volunteers.
  • Commitment to the organization's mission and values.
