About the position

The Nonproliferation Policy Analyst at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) plays a crucial role in enhancing national security by providing technical expertise and analysis related to nuclear safeguards and nonproliferation policies. This position involves gathering and evaluating information from various sources to address complex challenges in national security, energy, and environmental issues. The analyst will work within a collaborative environment, contributing to multidisciplinary project teams that integrate policy, analytics, and technology to develop innovative solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and analysis to advance scientific frontiers in national security, energy, and the environment.
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from various sources to inform policy recommendations.
  • Anticipate and address internal and external business challenges, recommending process improvements.
  • Identify and solve unique and complex problems impacting the Laboratory's mission.
  • Utilize technical expertise in scientific, engineering, or policy disciplines to assess the significance and reliability of incoming information.
  • Evaluate information to recommend courses of action based on analysis.
  • Apply and interpret theories, principles, methods, tools, and technologies within the area of specialty.
  • Provide domain knowledge and insight on national-level mission needs to project teams.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 9 years of relevant experience -OR- MS/MA or higher and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional experience in nonproliferation or national security topics such as nuclear security, international safeguards, and arms control.
  • Educational background or experience in assessing policy or legal frameworks and developing instructional materials.
  • Deep knowledge or experience with federal organizations like DOE, DHS, DOS, DOD, or IAEA.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting research and making policy recommendations.
  • Ability to apply quantitative and qualitative research techniques to inform policy.
