About the position

The position involves providing technical expertise and analysis to address complex challenges in national security, energy, and environmental issues. The role requires gathering, analyzing, and evaluating information from various sources to recommend improvements and solutions. The candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team to apply scientific, engineering, or policy knowledge to national-level mission needs, particularly in the context of nuclear safeguards and non-proliferation.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical expertise and analysis to advance scientific frontiers in national security, energy, and the environment.
  • Gather, analyze, and evaluate information from various sources to inform decision-making.
  • Anticipate business challenges and recommend process or service improvements.
  • Identify and solve unique and complex problems impacting the Laboratory.
  • Utilize technical expertise in scientific, engineering, or policy disciplines to assess information reliability and significance.
  • Evaluate information to recommend courses of action based on analysis.
  • Apply and interpret theories, principles, methods, tools, and technologies within a specialty area.
  • Provide domain knowledge on national-level mission needs to multidisciplinary project teams.

Requirements

  • BS/BA and 9 years of relevant experience or MS/MA or higher and 7 years of relevant experience.
  • Professional experience in nonproliferation or national security topics such as nuclear security, international safeguards, and arms control.
  • Educational background or experience in assessing policy or legal frameworks and developing instructional materials.
  • Deep knowledge or experience with federal organizations like DOE, DHS, DOS, DOD, or IAEA.
  • Experience conducting research and making policy recommendations.
  • Ability to apply quantitative and qualitative research techniques to inform policy.

  • Skills in managing projects or multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Strong analytic and communication skills, both written and oral.
