About the position

The North America Indigenous Right Relations Project Manager at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is responsible for leading and managing projects that support equitable partnerships with Indigenous Peoples across North America. This role emphasizes the principles of right relations, including respect, trust, and reciprocity, to advance conservation goals while uplifting Indigenous voices and priorities. The Project Manager will coordinate complex initiatives, facilitate collaboration across teams, and ensure the program's strategic objectives are met, all while fostering an inclusive and supportive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement large and complex initiatives within the Indigenous Right Relations program.
  • Develop project plans, establish team structures, and manage timelines to ensure accountability.
  • Facilitate meetings and clarify roles among team members to promote effective collaboration.
  • Engage with Indigenous communities to support their conservation priorities and ensure their voices are heard.
  • Navigate interdependencies across the program's strategic pillars to align activities and foster communication.
  • Exercise independent judgment to identify and solve problems, making decisions that impact project outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, political science, public policy, international relations, international development, or related field.
  • 4 years of related experience in Indigenous studies, conservation practice, project management, or natural resource management.
  • Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in unstructured environments.
  • Ability to research, analyze, and compile information from diverse sources into cohesive reports.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational materials.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples or in multicultural/multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Familiarity with the histories, cultures, rights, and policies related to Indigenous Peoples of North America.
  • Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion as it applies to conservation design and implementation.
  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
