About the position

The North America Indigenous Right Relations Project Manager at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the implementation of priority projects within the Indigenous Right Relations (IRR) program. This role aims to foster equitable partnerships with Indigenous Peoples across North America, ensuring that their conservation priorities are respected and integrated into TNC's mission. The Project Manager will utilize inclusive processes and exceptional communication skills to build relationships and lead diverse teams, ultimately supporting the vision of thriving Indigenous communities and enhancing TNC's role as a trusted partner.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement large and complex initiatives within the IRR program.
  • Develop project plans, establish team structures, and manage timelines.
  • Facilitate meetings and ensure accountability among team members.
  • Engage in issue resolution and conflict management to collaboratively solve complex problems.
  • Build relationships and lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.
  • Support Indigenous ownership, use, and access to lands and waters.
  • Navigate interdependencies and ensure alignment of activities across the program's strategic pillars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, political science, public policy, international relations, international development or related field.
  • 4 years of related experience including in Indigenous studies, conservation practice, project management, and/or natural resource management.
  • Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
  • Experience researching, critically analyzing, and evaluating information from divergent sources.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples or in other multicultural/multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Familiarity with the histories, cultures, rights, and policies related to Indigenous Peoples of North America.
  • Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion as it applies to conservation design and implementation.
  • Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
