About the position

The North America Indigenous Right Relations Project Manager at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) is responsible for coordinating and implementing key projects within the Indigenous Right Relations (IRR) program. This role focuses on fostering equitable partnerships with Indigenous Peoples across North America, ensuring that their conservation priorities are respected and integrated into TNC's mission. The Project Manager will utilize a decolonized and Indigenous worldview to build relationships, manage diverse teams, and lead initiatives that promote healthy Indigenous communities and effective conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, oversee, and implement large and complex initiatives within the IRR program.
  • Develop project plans and establish team structures to ensure accountability and clarity of roles.
  • Facilitate meetings and manage timelines to support project execution.
  • Engage in issue resolution and conflict management to collaboratively solve complex problems.
  • Build relationships and lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams across the organization.
  • Support Indigenous ownership, use, and access to lands and waters.
  • Navigate interdependencies and ensure alignment of activities across the program's strategic pillars.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, political science, public policy, international relations, international development or related field.
  • 4 years of related experience including Indigenous studies, conservation practice, project management, and/or natural resource management.
  • Experience leading complex projects or strategic initiatives in an unstructured environment.
  • Experience researching, analyzing, and evaluating information from diverse sources and compiling it into cohesive reports.
  • Experience writing and editing promotional and informational material.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples or in multicultural/multidisciplinary contexts.
  • Familiarity with the histories, cultures, rights, and policies related to Indigenous Peoples of North America.
  • Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion as it applies to conservation design and implementation.
  • Ability to develop and drive new ideas and approaches.
