About the position

The Northern Sierra Project Coordinator will support the development and implementation of conservation projects across California National Forests, focusing primarily on the Plumas National Forest. This role involves project and contract management, collaboration with various stakeholders, and the pursuit of funding opportunities to enhance community-based conservation efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop scopes of work for forest health, wildfire risk reduction, community resilience, watershed improvement, ecosystem restoration, and recreation enhancement projects in collaboration with U.S. Forest Service partners.
  • Lead the advertisement, negotiation, and awarding of contracts for services related to fuel reduction, commercial thinning, habitat restoration, and community resiliency projects.
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, nonprofit organizations, and the U.S. Forest Service for effective on-the-ground project implementation.
  • Manage and track large-scale Stewardship Agreements and Challenge Cost Share Agreements associated with forest restoration projects.
  • Pursue funding opportunities and create new development opportunities to expand the base of private and public-sector supporters and partners.
  • Build and maintain relationships among the U.S. Forest Service, California NGO partners, and the NFF for effective community-based conservation partnerships.
  • Support activities that reinforce existing collaborations and help build new partnerships for restoration and recreation projects.
  • Serve as a point of contact for NFF conservation activities in the Plumas National Forest area.
  • Assist with the NFF program of work in California, managing diverse, short-term projects as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or professional certification in conservation, forestry, environmental science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum three years of work experience with conservation programs, project planning, and/or coordinating project implementation, preferably on federal lands.
