About the position
The Town of St. Michaels is seeking full-time Certified Police Officers to maintain public safety and enforce laws within the community. The role involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to emergencies, conducting investigations, and engaging with the community to deter crime and ensure the safety of residents and visitors.
Responsibilities
- Patrol designated areas in a vehicle and on foot to maintain a visible presence and deter crime.
- Detect violations of laws and ordinances and respond to calls for service.
- Evaluate situations and determine appropriate courses of action.
- Intervene in fights, subdue attackers, and disarm suspects.
- Assist in crowd control and perform rescue operations.
- Conduct preliminary and follow-up investigations by interviewing victims, witnesses, and suspects.
- Collect, preserve, and process evidence, and perform searches.
- Arrest individuals when probable cause exists and transport them safely.
- Serve warrants and summonses, and conduct surveillance as needed.
- Administer first aid and emergency medical aid as required.
- Prepare accurate and complete written reports and forms for investigations and administrative purposes.
- Enforce traffic laws and conduct accident investigations.
- Maintain and inspect all assigned equipment, including vehicles and firearms.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Completed a state-certified police academy.
- In-depth knowledge of federal and state laws and modern policing principles.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations and demonstrate appropriate restraint.
Nice-to-haves
- Training certification in firearms, first aid, and CPR.
