About the position

The Senior Publicist role at our established NYC & Long Island PR firm involves leading media relations and client management efforts for a diverse portfolio of clients. This position requires exceptional media placement skills, strong industry connections, and a deep understanding of both traditional and modern media landscapes. The Senior Publicist will be responsible for developing strategic PR campaigns, securing top-tier media placements, and managing high-stakes communications.

Responsibilities

  • Secure top-tier media placements in TV, newspapers, online publications, blogs, and radio.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, producers, and influencers.
  • Craft compelling press releases, op-eds, media pitches, and storylines that generate coverage.
  • Develop and execute strategic PR campaigns tailored to each client's unique goals.
  • Serve as the primary contact for clients, providing regular updates and media insights.
  • Lead high-stakes crisis communication efforts and public messaging when necessary.
  • Stay ahead of evolving media trends while using classic PR tactics that drive long-term results.
  • Leverage a deep understanding of NYC, Long Island, and statewide political and economic media landscapes.
  • Navigate complex industries, including government affairs, law enforcement, unions, economic development, construction, and corporate leadership.
  • Craft press materials, talking points, and executive messaging that resonate with the public.
  • Oversee media training for clients, preparing them for interviews and public appearances.
  • Generate creative PR campaigns that build visibility and public trust.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in public relations with a proven track record of securing media placements across TV, print, online, and radio platforms.
  • Strong industry relationships with top-tier national and regional media outlets.
  • Expertise in media strategy, press release writing, crisis communications, and client management.
  • Familiarity with government affairs, unions, law enforcement, corporate communications, and economic development.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to manage clients, mentor junior staff, and lead campaigns with minimal supervision.
  • Well-connected in NYC, Long Island, and beyond, with a pulse on the latest media and PR trends.
