About the position

The International School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Spanish Teacher Assistant for Early Childhood to join our faculty. This full-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about early childhood education and are committed to fostering a nurturing and engaging learning environment for young children. The successful candidate will work closely with the Head of Early Childhood and other faculty members to support the implementation of the International Baccalaureate's Primary Years Program (PYP) within our Pre-K and Kindergarten classrooms. The role requires a strong understanding of the developmental stages of young children and the ability to create meaningful relationships based on trust and respect. As a Spanish Teacher Assistant, you will assist the lead teacher in delivering inquiry-rich learning experiences that align with the PYP framework. Your responsibilities will include supporting individual and small group learning, observing and recording student performance, and helping children access the curriculum effectively. You will also be expected to participate in professional development opportunities to maintain your Early Childhood license and to collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community to enhance the educational experience for our students. The position follows the school schedule, typically from 7:15 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday, and is expected to start on August 13, 2024. The compensation for this role ranges from $21.50 to $23.50 per hour, depending on experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package that supports the health and well-being of our faculty members.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the lead teacher in delivering inquiry-rich learning experiences.
  • Support individual and small group learning under the teacher's guidance.
  • Observe and record student performance to assess progress as requested by the teacher.
  • Create strong relationships with students based on trust and understanding.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the developmental stages and needs of young children.
  • Familiarize oneself with the rules and regulations of the Oregon Child Care Division.
  • Attend IS meetings and events when requested by the Head of School.
  • Participate in staff collaboration events and training opportunities.
  • Conduct oneself appropriately and professionally at all times.
  • Be present on campus during designated ISP work hours.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience.
  • At least 6 months of experience working with Early Childhood or Elementary age children.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Native level fluency in Spanish with the ability to support teaching the language.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and experience with Google Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Google Calendar) is preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • 1-2 years of professional teaching experience in a language immersion classroom.
  • Certification for teaching the target language (Spanish).
  • Previous PYP experience or training.
