About the position
The Nucor Technical Academy is a specialized training program aimed at teaching electrical maintenance fundamentals to individuals with a high school diploma or GED. Over a period of 27 months, participants will receive a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training to prepare them for a career as a Maintenance Electrician. The program is administered at Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa, Inc. in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, and includes opportunities for on-the-job training and academic coursework.
Responsibilities
- Participate in hands-on assignments with experienced Nucor Maintenance Team Members.
- Complete academic coursework online and engage in limited on-the-job training during the first summer and initial fall.
- Relocate to Tuscaloosa for five continuous semesters to take technical courses and participate in on-the-job training.
- Uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Current transcript with a preferred GPA of 2.75 or higher.
- ACT, SAT, or Accuplacer scores (must be provided prior to interview if not currently available).
- One-page essay explaining suitability for the program and career or educational goals.
- Willingness Questionnaire.
