About the position

The Emergency Communications Call Taker at NTECC is responsible for receiving and processing emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, coordinating responses for police, fire, and EMS services. This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to work under pressure, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and professionalism. The position operates under general supervision and involves collaboration with various agencies and the public.

Responsibilities

  • Answer emergency and non-emergency call requests for service for police, fire, and emergency medical assistance.
  • Coordinate with other agencies, citizens, and businesses to gather information and make referrals.
  • Conduct computer searches through local, state, and national databases for wanted persons or stolen property.
  • Confirm stolen property, wanted persons, and missing persons; enter, clear, and modify data in TCIC/NCIC as requested.
  • Support co-workers by providing guidance and training as needed.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens and NTECC staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
  • Ensure compliance with all rules and regulations to preserve public trust and accountability.
  • Work in a 24/7 environment, including weekends and holidays, and be punctual and regular in attendance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One year of related experience in a customer service environment.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Must read, write, and speak English fluently.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License may be required or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.
  • Must pass FBI criminal background fingerprint check and comply with state and federal requirements for criminal justice information security standards.
  • Successful completion of all required certifications within one year, including TCOLE Public Safety Telecommunicator License, NCIC/TCIC full access, CPR, IAED Emergency Medical Dispatch, and IAED Emergency Fire Dispatch.
