About the position
The Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer at Boston Government Services (BGS) will support operations at the Y12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN. This role focuses on ensuring the safe handling, processing, and storage of fissile materials to prevent nuclear criticality accidents. The engineer will provide technical expertise, conduct compliance inspections, and develop critical safety documentation while fostering a culture of safety and inclusivity within the organization.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical capabilities in Nuclear Criticality Safety (NCS) to ensure safe handling of fissile materials.
- Perform analysis of equipment, processes, and procedures to prescribe correct methods and control requirements.
- Conduct surveillances, inspections, and audits of fissile material operations for compliance.
- Provide specific NCS professional interpretations and advice to operating areas.
- Conduct training for employees in basic NCS.
- Validate, maintain, and operate nuclear computer codes and nuclear cross-sections.
- Develop, revise, and review NCS documentation such as Criticality Safety Evaluations (CSEs) and Nuclear Criticality Safety Determinations (NCSDs).
- Complete required NCS annual Operational Reviews as needed.
- Provide daily nuclear facility support including facility walkdowns and participation in Operational Safety Boards.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience with DOE rules and standards including 10CFR 830.
- Must be a US citizen.
- Successful drug screening.
- Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Nice-to-haves
- P.E. License.
- An Active Q Clearance.
- 20 plus years of relevant professional experience.
- 10 years of experience in a DOE regulated environment.
