About the position

The Nuclear Instrument Control Technician at DTE Energy is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting a variety of instrumentation and control systems within a nuclear facility. This role involves working with complex electronic systems, providing technical support, and leading other technicians in routine work and troubleshooting. The technician will also ensure compliance with safety standards and maintain accurate documentation of repairs and calibrations.

Responsibilities

  • Install, modify, replace, maintain, calibrate, troubleshoot, test, and repair a variety of instrumentation including analog/digital NIs, process radiation monitors, and digital control systems.
  • Maintain solid-state electronic equipment and troubleshoot to the component level.
  • Maintain site security equipment such as explosive detectors and x-ray machines.
  • Use and maintain a variety of test equipment including oscilloscopes and digital multimeters.
  • Understand and work from blueprints, diagrams, and vendor manuals for calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Act as job project leader, supervising other technicians and collaborating with planning for work order revisions.
  • Perform walk-downs of work orders to ensure accuracy and compliance with safety standards.
  • Act as protection leader for work orders, advising on tagging of control equipment.
  • Perform surveillance testing on plant instrumentation and provide technical reviews of related procedures.
  • Operate manlifts, bucket trucks, and other company vehicles as required.
  • Build and install test set-ups to support plant projects.
  • Maintain records of repairs and instrument calibration data, ensuring completeness of work documentation.
  • Respond to plant emergencies and participate in emergency drills.

Requirements

  • Completed a company recognized apprenticeship in the trade of Instrumentation and Control (I&C) or equivalent experience.
  • At least four and one-half years of industrial instrument repair experience, including two years of experience with electronic control systems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with nuclear instrumentation and control systems.
  • Familiarity with safety regulations in a nuclear environment.
