About the position

X-energy LLC is seeking a Robotics Mechanical Engineer responsible for the engineering design and development of mechanical systems, structures, and components (SSCs) with a focus on robotic and remotely operated systems. This role encompasses the full lifecycle from concept through production, including prototyping, testing, and commissioning, ensuring that all systems meet technical specifications and requirements, particularly in a nuclear environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical/physical concepts and detailed mechanical designs for fabrication.
  • Collaborate with subcontractors on robotics and special tooling development.
  • Perform modeling, analysis, and simulation of electromechanical systems.
  • Document applicable requirements, interfaces, design basis, and criteria by coordinating with stakeholders.
  • Conduct computations for structural, thermal, hydraulic, and other calculations as required.
  • Develop innovative mechanical solutions for robotics and special tooling.
  • Integrate design activities across engineering teams and perform supporting calculations.
  • Create and maintain CAD-generated engineering models.
  • Support the assessment of SSCs for robotics and special tooling operations.
  • Write and develop design documentation including technical reports and drawings.
  • Perform work in accordance with quality procedures for design and configuration management.
  • Provide independent reviews and acceptance reviews of engineering deliverables.
  • Maintain professional demeanor and behavior in all communications.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the manager.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related discipline from an ABET accredited university.
  • Typically three years of experience in an engineering role required.
  • A master's degree may substitute for two years of experience; a Ph.D. may substitute for three years of experience.
  • Proficiency with engineering hand calculations is required.
  • Experience in robotics, kinematics, mechanisms, and mechanical design.
  • Familiarity with fabrication methods such as welding, CNC machining, and 3D printing.
  • Experience with CAD tools like NX or SolidWorks.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with electromechanical components selection and specification.
  • Knowledge of hardware ownership including manufacturing and testing oversight.
