About the position

The Nuclear Mechanical Inspector (Ships) Leader will oversee the safety and operational capabilities of nuclear reactor plant systems at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. This role involves leading a team of inspectors, ensuring compliance with quality control procedures, and mentoring staff with varying levels of expertise in nuclear safety and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and operational capabilities of nuclear reactor plant systems.
  • Oversee quality control procedures and inspection processes.
  • Lead and mentor a team of inspectors in safety and operations.
  • Utilize knowledge of receipt inspection procedures and techniques.
  • Document inspection performance and deficiencies.
  • Conduct mechanical, piping, and structural inspections using specialized measuring devices.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Experience in leading or supervising inspection processes.
  • Knowledge of nuclear material control and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to perform weld joint inspections and nondestructive tests (NDT).
  • Familiarity with special measuring and inspection devices.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a military or naval environment.
  • Certification in nuclear inspection or related fields.
