The Nuclear Medicine Technologist plays a crucial role in the healthcare system by performing specialized technical tasks that involve the detection of radiation in patients. In addition to technical skills, the Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for effective communication and documentation. This includes sharing essential information with healthcare personnel through both written and oral means, ensuring that all relevant data is accurately conveyed. The technologist will also be tasked with verifying orders, charging procedures, and maintaining a working knowledge of the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) to manage imaging data efficiently. Furthermore, the role involves the safe transport of patients, ensuring that all necessary paperwork is completed prior to any procedures. This position is classified as a “Safety Sensitive Position” under Act 593 of the State of Arkansas, which emphasizes the importance of maintaining a drug-free environment to protect patients and uphold the integrity of healthcare services. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist must maintain their professional expertise and certification, fulfilling continuing education requirements as mandated by Conway Regional Health System policy.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized technical tasks in nuclear medicine.
  • Utilize detection of radiation in patients to assist in detecting anatomical abnormalities.
  • Document and communicate essential information to healthcare personnel.
  • Verify orders and charge procedures accurately.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the PACS system.
  • Transport patients safely with all necessary paperwork completed.

Requirements

  • ARRT (NM) certification and/or NMTCB certification within one year of employment.
  • Maintain an active register membership with ARRT/NMTCB by fulfilling CME requirements.
  • Arkansas State License in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Successful completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers prior to completion of orientation.
  • Previous computer experience.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission and Arkansas Department of Health requirements preferred.
