About the position

The Nuclear Security Research Support Associate 2 will provide essential research assistance and support for projects related to nuclear security under the direction of the Center for Nuclear Security Policy (CNSP) director. This role involves performing research, organizing and analyzing data, and assisting faculty and researchers in various aspects of nuclear security topics, including nuclear deterrence and proliferation. The position is designed for individuals seeking research experience in political science with a focus on nuclear security, ideally before pursuing graduate education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide research assistance and support for faculty, researchers, and fellows.
  • Perform research, collect, organize, and analyze data.
  • Coordinate multiple research-related projects.
  • Summarize and document findings from research activities.
  • Proof-read research papers and articles for accuracy and clarity.
  • Assist with fact-checking, editing, and formatting of research materials.
  • Support faculty and researchers working on nuclear security topics.
  • Work on issues related to nuclear deterrence, proliferation, and decision making.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior exposure to research lab and basic knowledge of laboratory practices.
  • Ability to coordinate several projects simultaneously.
  • Strong organizational, project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Critical thinking and written/verbal communication skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with MS Office and Outlook; willingness to learn new software.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • High level of motivation and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.

Nice-to-haves

  • At least three to five years of relevant experience, including coursework or experience as an undergraduate.
  • A keen interest in nuclear security.
  • Bachelor's degree in Political Science, International Relations, History, Engineering, or a related field.
