The Nuclear Shift Test Engineer (STE) plays a critical role in directing reactor plant testing for their assigned shift at the Electric Boat Groton Shipyard. This position is essential for ensuring that all testing and operations involving the reactor plant are conducted safely and in compliance with NAVSEA 0989-028-5000, which is the Manual for the Control of Testing and Plant Conditions. The STE is responsible for overseeing a team that includes Ships Force, Radiological Controls, Trades, Inspection, and Test Technician personnel. This leadership role requires a strong commitment to safety and adherence to regulatory standards, as the STE must ensure that all activities are performed in a manner that protects both personnel and the environment. The position may require shift work, overtime, and the possibility of working on weekends and holidays, reflecting the demanding nature of the nuclear testing environment. The STE will be involved in various projects that support New Construction and Planned Maintenance Availabilities (PSAs) for Virginia class submarines, as well as Overhaul and Repair work for Los Angeles class submarines. The work will primarily take place at the Electric Boat Shipyard and the Nuclear Regional Maintenance Department, both located in Groton, Connecticut. Candidates for this position must be qualified as a Radiation Worker or Limited Radiation Worker, ensuring they have the necessary training and certification to operate safely in a nuclear environment.
