About the position

The Nuclear Weapon Effects Subject Matter Expert (SME) at SimIS Inc. is responsible for developing test and evaluation (T&E) capability investment proposals, critiquing test-related requirements documents, and applying electrical engineering principles to support nuclear modernization efforts. This role involves interaction with senior Department of Defense (DoD) leadership and strategic partners, as well as conducting analyses to ensure the adequacy of nuclear weapon effects infrastructure and capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop T&E capability investment proposals, including investment in research and development of new test capabilities.
  • Review and critique test-related requirements documents, such as T&E Master Plans and Analysis of Alternatives.
  • Apply principles and techniques of electrical engineering to accomplish goals.
  • Interact with senior DoD leadership and strategic partners regarding nuclear modernization T&E infrastructure.
  • Learn and grow outside of current technical background.
  • Explore technical positions individually and in groups to identify root causes and first principles.
  • Attend periodic test and evaluation meetings for nuclear weapon effects and related infrastructure investments.
  • Assist in the assessment of complex T&E support plans, specifications, and design documents.
  • Research current and emerging test requirements to determine vulnerabilities to nuclear effects.
  • Prepare presentations and administrative packages on nuclear matters to support planning and budgeting actions.

Requirements

  • DoD Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility (TS/SCI).
  • Masters of Science degree in physics, nuclear engineering, or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • At least 8 years of experience in a relevant field.
  • Familiarity with PBP&E, acquisition community practices, and key nuclear modernization stakeholders.
  • Experience with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD in physics, nuclear engineering, electrical engineering or related discipline from an accredited university.
  • Six years of experience in a technical field.
