About the position

The Nurse Anesthetist II PRN position at Houston Methodist is designed for experienced Certified Nurse Anesthetists who provide comprehensive anesthesia services in a clinical, research, and academic setting. This role involves direct patient care, participation in educational activities, and engagement in departmental research, all while adhering to Texas nursing regulations and Houston Methodist's standards of care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and didactic instruction to nurse anesthesia students, focusing on patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and major vascular surgery.
  • Evaluate and counsel nurse anesthesia students, making appropriate referrals when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with healthcare team members to foster a supportive and collaborative environment.
  • Perform thorough pre-anesthesia assessments and develop appropriate anesthesia plans.
  • Administer anesthesia safely and effectively, including induction, maintenance, and emergence phases.
  • Monitor and evaluate ongoing patient data during anesthesia administration.
  • Respond to emergency situations with appropriate airway management and emergency interventions.
  • Participate in research projects and quality improvement initiatives within the department.
  • Assist in developing and evaluating curricula for nurse anesthesia students.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree or higher from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Completion of Nurse Anesthesia program.
  • Four years of anesthesia experience.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in Texas or temporary licensure within 60 days.
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) certification in Texas.
  • Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification from NBCRNA.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from AHA.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in teaching or mentoring nurse anesthesia students.
  • Familiarity with current developments and trends in anesthesia practices.
