About the position
The Nurse Anesthetist (Certified Registered) position at Rutgers University is responsible for administering anesthesia-related care across four key areas: pre-anesthetic preparation and evaluation, anesthesia induction, maintenance and emergence, and post-anesthesia care. This role is critical in ensuring patient safety and comfort during surgical procedures, requiring a high level of expertise and clinical judgment.
Responsibilities
- Perform and document a pre-anesthetic assessment and evaluation of the patient.
- Request consultations and diagnostic studies as needed.
- Select, obtain, order, or administer pre-anesthetic medications and fluids.
- Obtain informed consent for anesthesia.
- Develop and implement an anesthetic plan.
- Select and initiate the planned anesthetic technique, including general, regional, and local anesthesia.
- Select, obtain, or administer anesthetics, adjuvant drugs, and fluids necessary for managing anesthesia.
- Apply or insert appropriate non-invasive and invasive monitoring modalities for patient physiological data.
- Manage a patient's airway and pulmonary status using various techniques.
- Manage emergence and recovery from anesthesia by administering necessary medications and fluids.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Nurse Anesthesia Education Program with a Master's Degree in a related field.
- Current licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- Current certification as a Nurse Anesthetist by the Council on Certification/recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
- Successful completion of the National Certification Examination to be a CRNA.
- Certification in Basic and Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
