About the position

The Marion County Public Health Department is seeking a Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive nursing services aimed at promoting the health and well-being of residents, particularly focusing on vulnerable populations, refugees, and immigrants. This role involves working collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver health education, care coordination, and clinical services, while managing cases related to tuberculosis (TB) from initiation to completion of treatment. The position requires flexibility and adaptability to cater to diverse populations and involves travel within Marion County to visit community sites.

Responsibilities

  • Provides care coordination, case management, referral, and follow-up care to individuals and families from vulnerable populations and/or high-risk groups.
  • Collaborates with MCPHD departments, resettlement agencies, Indiana State Department of Health (ISDH), and other community agencies to provide necessary services.
  • Works with hospital-based medical personnel, community partners, and health care providers to achieve goals and maximize positive client outcomes.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures, treatment regimens, administers injections, vaccinations, and medications according to physician orders and/or MCPHD protocols.
  • Adheres to applicable OSHA standards during routine assignments or public health emergencies.
  • Documents patient assessment and intervention data in medical records using established forms and databases.
  • Assumes responsibility for professional self-growth and continued development in nursing, disease case management, and epidemiology.
  • Case manages individuals diagnosed with or suspected of having TB or latent TB infection.
  • Collects demographic information, health history, and assesses the extent of illness or infectiousness.
  • Provides home visits to conduct comprehensive assessments and directly observed therapy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from a NLN accredited college/program.
  • 2 or more years of previous nursing experience, including at least one year of hospital practice is preferred.
  • Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Valid Indiana Driver's license and access to own vehicle with current automobile insurance.
  • CPR certified and TB skin test certified (training provided).
  • Computer skills including typing skills of a minimum of 30 words per minute.

Nice-to-haves

  • Ongoing knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Ability to interact professionally and effectively with clients, agencies, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of local/state/federal laws and regulations concerning communicable diseases and the foreign-born population.
