About the position

Serve as a Nurse (Clinical/Psychiatric) with the Department of Defense at the Army Medical Center Eisenhower located on Fort Eisenhower, GA. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation. Salary negotiation will not be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Relocation and Recruitment Incentives may be offered to the best qualified candidates.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive behavioral health nursing assessments and histories to plan, provide and direct nursing care across the continuum of care.
  • Administer many psychotropic and complex medications and make independent judgments in the administration of PRN medication.
  • Educate patient and family members regarding the disease process, treatment modalities, diagnostic procedures, use of equipment related to disease/care, and possible adverse reactions to medications.
  • Develop and present classes related to psychiatric/behavioral health nursing to enhance the knowledge base of peers and subordinates.
  • Identify patient problems and generate nursing diagnoses.

Requirements

  • A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program.
  • Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
  • At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes providing comprehensive nursing care to psychiatric or behavioral health patients.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting may be required up to 40 lbs.

Nice-to-haves

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
  • Three (3) full years of progressively higher level graduate education from a professional nursing program.
