About the position

The Nurse Clinical/ED Internship position at UK Chandler/Samaritan Hospital is a full-time, six-month intensive training program designed for Registered Nurses (RNs) to gain hands-on experience in emergency services. This role focuses on providing comprehensive, patient-centered care in a high-acuity environment, with an emphasis on collaboration among nursing staff and physicians to enhance patient outcomes. Candidates are expected to commit to a minimum of 18 months of employment following the internship completion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient-centered care.
  • Assess, document, plan, implement, teach, develop, and evaluate a comprehensive nursing plan of care.
  • Deliver direct patient care and ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Train and delegate duties for Nursing Care Technicians (Nursing Assistants).
  • Adhere to University policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Utilize the nursing process in conjunction with a comprehensive patient-centered plan of care.

Requirements

  • Active Kentucky Registered Nurse (RN) license, Temporary Work Permit (TWP), Provisional License, or active compact state Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support certification for the Healthcare Provider valid for at least 6 months after employment date.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 50-100 pounds daily and 25-50 pounds frequently.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and sit for long periods.

Nice-to-haves

  • BSN preferred.
  • At least 1 year of RN experience preferred.
  • Previous RN experience with less than 1 year critical care is preferred.
  • Current/prior experience as a Nursing Care Technician (NCT) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is encouraged.
