About the position

The Nurse Clinician position at Mount Sinai Medical Center involves providing high-quality nursing care in an acute care setting. The role emphasizes clinical competence, patient safety, and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient outcomes. The Nurse Clinician will also serve as a resource for nursing staff, assist in educational programs, and participate in research and performance improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains clinical competence in specialty area and demonstrates ability to provide safe care.
  • Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and nursing care of patients.
  • Functions as a role model by utilizing the nursing process to deliver direct, indirect and/or consultative patient care.
  • Assists in developing, revising and evaluating standards of care, protocols and procedures based on research.
  • Serves as a clinical resource to preceptors, orientees, unit staff, educators and students.
  • Provides educational assistance in monitoring the progress of nursing staff in acquiring skills.
  • Serves as a consultant to staff in other nursing units and departments.
  • Makes rounds on nursing units, especially for high-risk groups, to identify needs and assess progress.
  • Maintains open communication with the interdisciplinary team regarding patient/family needs.
  • Clears nursing personnel in procedures as specified in established policies.
  • Collaborates with Manager of education to design, plan, coordinate and evaluate formal education programs.
  • Maintains unit based and annual competencies for staff.
  • Provides in-service programs and participates in annual employee competency.
  • Coordinates unit education on new products/equipment and performance improvement measures.
  • Assists, encourages and mentors staff/students to participate in research and/or PI projects.
  • Assists staff in the development of individualized plans of care for patients.
  • Generates ideas and assists in planning for research and PI studies.
  • Performs initial vital signs and admission history, including introduction to patient and family.
  • Assesses patient education needs on admission and psychosocial needs specific to patients' age.
  • Establishes priorities for patient care based on patient needs.
  • Demonstrates safe and correct use of specific unit equipment.
  • Performs pre-operative and post-operative care and instructions for surgical patients.
  • Adheres to standard precautions including hand hygiene guidelines.
  • Performs ostomy care and reinforces teaching.
  • Transfers patients in/out of the unit efficiently by obtaining complete physician orders.
  • Documents/reports patient responses or outcomes from nursing interventions and education.
  • Obtains mandatory hospital and unit specific in-services annually.
  • Ensures productivity by delegating assignments and evaluating completion of duties.

Requirements

  • Current FL RN License
  • BLS and ACLS Required
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing/Master's Degree in Nursing Preferred
  • Experience in clinical specialty of a minimum of one year
