About the position

This position is located within Brooke Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and involves planning, coordinating, and implementing educational programs for perioperative nursing staff, which includes both active duty and civilian nurses and technicians. The incumbent will utilize databases for statistical analysis to identify issues, track trends, and evaluate the effectiveness of corrective actions. Additionally, the role includes managing the Nursing Competency Based Orientation Program, conducting comprehensive orientations for new staff, mentoring novice staff, and assisting with supervisory responsibilities during emergencies or staff shortages.

Responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate, and implement educational programs for perioperative nursing staff.
• Conduct statistical analysis using databases to identify problems and track trends.
• Manage the Nursing Competency Based Orientation Program (CBOs) and ensure compliance with Joint Commission guidelines.
• Conduct comprehensive orientations for newly assigned staff members.
• Serve as a mentor and coach to novice staff members.
• Assist with staff augmentation during emergencies or extreme nurse shortages.

Requirements

• A graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited program.
• Current, active, full, and unrestricted license as a professional nurse.
• At least one year of professional nursing experience, including providing care in the operating room and conducting educational programs.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross.

Nice-to-haves

• Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) in nursing.
• Experience in conducting educational trainings or programs.
