About the position

The Nurse Educator at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational and developmental needs of nursing staff. This position is dedicated to ensuring that nursing personnel possess the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, competent care to patients and their families. The Nurse Educator will facilitate the acquisition and application of clinical knowledge and decision-making skills among unit nurses and other healthcare partners involved in patient care. This role requires collaboration with other educators, staff members, Clinical Nurse Specialists, vendors, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Key responsibilities include the orientation of new employees, preceptor selection, training and evaluation, in-service development and presentation, competency program implementation, and education coordination. The Nurse Educator will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate both individualized and group educational needs, activities, and outcomes, ensuring that the nursing staff is well-equipped to meet the demands of their roles. In addition to educational responsibilities, the Nurse Educator is expected to promote customer satisfaction by utilizing the L.A.S.T. model (Listen, Apologize, Solve, and Thank) to address customer concerns effectively. Maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of customers is paramount, as outlined in the "Expectations for Customer Service Excellence" booklet. The Nurse Educator will also demonstrate positive collaborative behaviors with healthcare team members and consider customer needs in relation to the evolving demands of the department. This position is part-time and operates during day shifts, contributing to a supportive and holistic care environment at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission.

Responsibilities

  • Meet the educational and developmental needs of nursing staff.
  • Facilitate the acquisition and application of clinical knowledge and decision-making skills.
  • Collaborate with other educators, staff members, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Conduct orientation for new employees and oversee preceptor selection and training.
  • Develop and present in-service training programs.
  • Implement competency programs and coordinate educational functions.
  • Assess, develop, implement, and evaluate educational needs and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • 2 Years of Position-Related Experience
