About the position

The Nurse Educator for the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Orientation at AdventHealth Shawnee Mission plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational and developmental needs of nursing staff. This part-time position is designed for individuals who are passionate about nursing education and are committed to ensuring that nursing staff possess the necessary knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality, competent care to patients and their families. The Nurse Educator will facilitate the acquisition and application of clinical knowledge and decision-making skills among unit nurses and other healthcare partners involved in patient care. In this role, the Nurse Educator will collaborate with other educators, staff members, Clinical Nurse Specialists, vendors, physicians, and interdisciplinary team members. Key responsibilities include the orientation of new employees, preceptor selection, training and evaluation, development and presentation of in-service programs, implementation of competency programs, and coordination of educational functions and structures. The educator will assess, develop, implement, and evaluate both individualized and group educational needs, activities, and outcomes, ensuring that all nursing staff are well-prepared to meet the demands of their roles. The Nurse Educator is also expected to demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction by utilizing the L.A.S.T. (Listen, Apologize, Solve, and Thank) model to address customer concerns effectively. Maintaining confidentiality, privacy, and dignity of customers is paramount, as is fostering positive collaborative behaviors with healthcare team members. The role requires a proactive approach to consider the needs of customers in relation to the evolving demands of the department, ensuring that the highest standards of care are consistently met.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the acquisition and application of clinical knowledge and decision-making skills among nursing staff.
  • Conduct orientation for new employees and oversee preceptor selection, training, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • Kansas Registered Nurse License
  • BCLS certification obtained through the American Heart Association
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing
  • 2 years of position-related experience
