About the position

The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Specialist plays a crucial role in enhancing the performance and professional development of nursing associates at MedStar Health. This position encompasses various functions including education, consultation, and leadership, aimed at implementing effective learning and development programs that align with the organization's mission and values. The NPD Specialist is responsible for assessing educational needs, designing and evaluating learning programs, and facilitating the onboarding and ongoing education of nursing staff.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates clinical expertise and knowledge of education theory to develop learning programs.
  • Designs, implements, and evaluates educational programs and consultative services.
  • Assesses learning needs through data collection to determine specific education needs of associates.
  • Plans and conducts orientation for new personnel to facilitate their transition into the practice environment.
  • Supports the transition to practice for newly licensed nurses using the MedStar New to Practice Nurse Residency Program model.
  • Identifies learning needs and collaborates with unit leaders to promote critical thinking and competent patient care delivery.
  • Develops education plans and coordinates resources for nursing associates' ongoing learning.
  • Provides continuing education activities to expand knowledge and maintain certification.
  • Conducts educational activities that facilitate the adoption of new procedures and technologies.
  • Plans and conducts competency validation programs for nursing department associates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing required.
  • Master's degree in Nursing, Health Care or Business Administration preferred.
  • 3-4 years of progressively responsible job-related experience required.
  • Experience in teaching or professional development preferred.
  • RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure required.
  • Certification in clinical specialty from a nationally recognized nursing organization within 1 year required.
  • Nursing Professional Development certification within 36 months of hire required.
  • CPR certification for healthcare providers within 90 days required.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $87,318 - $157,289.
