About the position

The Nurse Educator plays a crucial role in enhancing the educational framework within Glenwood Behavioral Health Hospital. This position is responsible for assessing the educational needs of nursing staff and developing comprehensive training programs to address those needs. The Nurse Educator collaborates with hospital leadership and medical practitioners to ensure that nursing processes are effectively integrated into patient care, thereby improving the quality of care provided to patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Assess educational needs and develop/coordinate necessary education programs.
  • Coordinate orientation programs for new clinical staff.
  • Act as a general resource for nursing staff.
  • Work with hospital leadership and staff to assess current educational needs and develop a plan to satisfy those needs.
  • Collaborate with medical practitioners and the Director of Nursing to incorporate nursing processes into the plan of care for patients.
  • Provide educational leadership to patients and care providers to enhance specialized patient care within established clinical protocol.
  • Assist patients and caregivers with education needs, problem-solving, and health management across the continuum of care.
  • Implement and deliver educational curricula as required by regulatory agencies such as Joint Commission, CARF, CMS, and State agencies.
  • Initiate clinical skills development programs for direct care staff.
  • Educate direct patient care staff in the use of equipment and supplies, and coordinate in-service training for appropriate staff.
  • Provide specialized nursing protocols for direct care staff.
  • Develop training and implementation as needed.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Ohio.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master's degree in Nursing or Education preferred.
  • Experience in nursing education or clinical training.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to assess educational needs and develop effective training programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with regulatory compliance in healthcare education.
  • Familiarity with adult learning principles and instructional design.
  • Certification in nursing education (CNE) is a plus.
