About the position

DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital, Michigan's first Level I Trauma Center, helped pioneer the evolution of emergency medicine and currently has one of the busiest and most well-equipped emergency departments anywhere. The first and largest verified burn center in the state is at Receiving, and it is one of only 43 in the nation. Receiving also offers the state's leading 24/7 hyperbaric oxygen program, Metro Detroit's first certified primary stroke center, and the nationally recognized and accredited DMC Rosa Parks Geriatric Center of Excellence. The Nurse Extern II (NE II) is a member of the patient care services team with primary responsibilities for technical, multi-skilled direct and indirect patient care activities.

Responsibilities

  • Work under the supervision of a registered nurse who delegates tasks based upon patient needs and NE II skills and abilities.
  • Report all deviations from expected patient parameters to the registered nurse.
  • Assist with providing patient care such as ADLs, vitals, ambulation and other duties within the scope of patient care tech or equivalent.
  • Be assigned to an experienced RN each shift and receive instruction and mentorship in the assigned clinical area.
  • Receive ongoing feedback from the assigned RN.

Requirements

  • Applicants can apply starting 6 months before graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Must pass all senior courses to remain in the program.
