About the position
The Nurse Externship in the Operating Room at Tower Health is designed for nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited program. This externship provides valuable clinical experience, allowing students to enhance their skills while working under the guidance of experienced registered nurses. The program aims to develop critical thinking and technical skills, as well as facilitate the transition into professional nursing practice through continued clinical exposure.
Responsibilities
- Administers and assists with routine treatments and patient care procedures according to hospital policies.
- Observes and reports changes in patient condition and/or behavior to Registered Nurse promptly.
- Reviews and discusses patient care activities with co-assigned Registered Nurse and documents accurately on the appropriate chart forms.
- Relates and responds in a courteous manner to patients, families, visitors and hospital personnel at all times.
- Demonstrates awareness of the teaching plan for co-assigned patients and assists in the implementation of the plan in conjunction with co-assigned Registered Nurse.
- Assists in the transport of patients in an efficient, safe manner.
- Demonstrates flexibility and adapts to changing situations and demonstrates efficient use of time.
- Maintains an organized and safe environment for patients, visitors, and fellow health care workers.
- Demonstrates effective communication with leaders and takes accountability for actions.
- All other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Currently enrolled in an accredited nursing program
- Completed Fundamentals of Nursing course and at least one clinical rotation
- Recommendation letter from school
- BLS Certification
