About the position

The Nurse Manager Assistant in Med Surg at Intermountain Health supports daily nursing activities by assisting the nurse manager with resource allocation, staffing, and ensuring quality patient care. This role encompasses tactical, operational, and strategic responsibilities, focusing on employee management and operational efficiency within the nursing department. The assistant plays a crucial role in fostering a professional environment, managing budgets, and facilitating effective patient care processes.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the nurse manager in managing daily nursing activities within the department.
  • Provide leadership and perform management functions delegated by the nurse manager.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and optimize patient care.
  • Develop departmental structure, processes, and outcome standards for one unit.
  • Manage day-to-day activities including staffing and equipment availability (60% Tactical).
  • Oversee budget management, supply acquisition, and employee performance evaluations (35% Operational).
  • Contribute to strategic planning and goal development (5% Strategic).
  • Conduct employee evaluations and participate in the hiring process.
  • Manage budgetary responsibilities and ensure effective resource allocation.
  • Facilitate collaborative decision-making and uphold professional independence.
  • Coordinate with the nurse manager to ensure competent staffing to meet patient care needs.
  • Evaluate staff competency through performance and peer reviews.
  • Monitor and improve patient satisfaction using service metrics and benchmarks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution.
  • Current Nursing License to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Leadership/supervisory experience.
  • Completion of Intermountain's leadership training and development courses within one year of accepting the position.
  • 2 years clinical experience.
