About the position

The Nurse Manager for the Clinical Research Unit at UTHealth Houston is responsible for overseeing the management and coordination of nursing staff involved in Phase I-III Clinical Trials. This role includes supervising Research Nurses, managing staff assignments, and ensuring high-quality patient care within the research setting. The position requires a blend of clinical expertise and leadership skills to support the operational needs of the unit while fostering a collaborative environment for clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Directs, supervises, and coordinates nursing staff to assure high quality, optimum patient care.
  • Responsible for the management and evaluation of clinical personnel.
  • Coordinates the schedules of department physicians, administrative and nursing staff to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Manages duty assignments of clinical staff based on availability of physicians and patient load.
  • Monitors departmental expenditures against a budget and compiles administrative reports.
  • Works closely with various departments to ensure efficient clinic operations.
  • Formulates goals and outcomes using evidence-based analysis to reduce patient and community risks.
  • Handles patient inquiries regarding medical problems and laboratory results.
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies' specifications.
  • Manages Human Resources activities including recruiting, hiring, training, and performance evaluations.

Requirements

  • Current nursing licensure in the State of Texas
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing school
  • 3 years of supervisory experience
  • BLS Certification
  • ACLS/PALS Certification preferred
  • Certification in area of specialty preferred

Nice-to-haves

  • Previous experience as a Research Nurse
  • Specialty nursing certifications such as CCRP or CCRC
  • Experience in specialty areas
