About the position

The Nurse Manager at The Ohio State University Medical Center plays a pivotal role in leading a team of healthcare professionals within the corrections unit of University Hospital. This position is integral to the mission of the Medical Center, which focuses on integrating quality patient care, education, and research. The Nurse Manager is responsible for cultivating an environment that fosters collaboration, enthusiasm, and mutual respect among staff, ensuring that patient care is at the forefront of all operations. This role requires the Nurse Manager to function as a key member of the healthcare team, providing patient care and supportive services in an inpatient setting. The ultimate goal is to achieve positive patient care outcomes, maximize patient involvement in their own care plans, improve service levels, reduce hospitalization lengths, and decrease costs. The Nurse Manager oversees the planning, organization, management, and evaluation of patient care operations on a 24-hour basis. This includes developing strategic short, mid, and long-term goals to enhance unit operations in alignment with the Medical Center's mission, vision, and values. The Nurse Manager evaluates achievements and identifies problems in meeting these goals, guiding and coaching patient care staff to improve performance. Collaboration with other patient care departments is essential to ensure comprehensive care delivery. Additionally, the Nurse Manager is responsible for developing and managing the unit's budget, identifying cost-saving initiatives, and participating in the development of evidence-based standards of practice. This role also involves identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes, taking a leadership stance in addressing factors that contribute to problematic outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage patient care operations for designated areas on a 24-hour basis.
  • Plan and develop strategic goals and processes to enhance unit operations.
  • Evaluate and identify achievements and problems in meeting operational goals.
  • Guide, coach, and evaluate the work performance of patient care staff.
  • Promote collaboration with other patient care departments.
  • Develop and manage unit budget plans and identify cost-saving initiatives.
  • Participate in the development of evidence-based standards of practice.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in patient care and organizational processes.
  • Lead initiatives to correct factors contributing to problematic outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Current Ohio RN license.
  • Minimum of three years of RN clinical experience.
  • At least two years of management experience in a relevant care setting.
  • Current certification in nursing administration or area of clinical expertise, or must achieve certification within the timeline of eligibility.
  • Prior leadership and management experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in nursing or related field.
