About the position

The Nurse Manager (ED) at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Emergency Department, ensuring high-quality patient care, and managing nursing staff. This role involves collaboration with department leadership and key stakeholders to coordinate patient care delivery, implement nursing practice guidelines, and maintain compliance with regulatory standards. The Nurse Manager is accountable for clinical practice, quality improvement, human resource management, and fiscal responsibility, while also promoting professional growth and self-improvement among staff.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Nursing Practice Guidelines.
  • Encourage staff participation on Shared Governance Councils and nursing committees.
  • Maintain knowledge of current professional/clinical issues and implement necessary changes in nursing care delivery.
  • Collaborate with leadership to provide staff development opportunities.
  • Link departmental strategic goals to organizational mission and goals.
  • Analyze data to drive day-to-day performance.
  • Work collaboratively to solve problems and improve processes.
  • Support new ideas and changes within the department.
  • Organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Develop effective communication methods to keep staff informed about departmental activities.
  • Proactively develop plans to meet future departmental needs.
  • Review outcome measures to improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to comply with regulatory standards and improve patient satisfaction.
  • Work with HR to recruit, hire, and retain qualified personnel.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and recommend compensation adjustments.
  • Ensure appropriate orientation and continuing education for staff.
  • Foster staff development and promote an environment sensitive to diverse needs.
  • Conduct monthly staff meetings and communicate staffing concerns to leadership.
  • Participate in the development of annual departmental budgets and monitor expenses.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a state approved or accredited School of Nursing.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing or related field preferred.
  • Current licensure to practice professional nursing in Massachusetts.
  • Life Support Certification: BLS.
  • Minimum of five years of in-patient nursing experience.
  • Two years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrates necessary clinical competence in nursing practice.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills.
