About the position

The Nurse Manager of the Emergency Department at Intermountain Health is responsible for the 24-hour oversight of nursing staff and patient care operations. This role involves developing staffing matrices, managing human resources, ensuring a safe environment for patients and staff, driving performance improvement initiatives, and promoting professional development while maintaining compliance with healthcare standards.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee nursing staff and patient care operations 24/7.
  • Develop staffing matrices to facilitate safe, quality patient care.
  • Evaluate staffing patterns and match competency with patient acuity.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, and onboard new associates.
  • Conduct associate evaluations and assist with goal setting.
  • Facilitate associate education and ensure competency validation.
  • Promote cultural competence and diversity in the workplace.
  • Identify key performance indicators and develop action plans for performance improvement.
  • Monitor patient satisfaction and develop strategies to enhance the patient experience.
  • Manage incident reporting and maintain regulatory readiness.
  • Facilitate and manage change within the department.
  • Demonstrate project management skills and participate in emergency response planning.
  • Understand and manage the operational and capital budget process.
  • Promote effective patient flow through the organization.
  • Manage conflicts and promote collaborative relationships among staff.
  • Engage in personal growth and professional development.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a BSN.
  • Current license to practice in the state of assigned position.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification upon hire.
  • Advanced Care Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification within two years of hire.
  • Leadership experience leading committees, councils, or professional organizations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in nursing (MSN).
  • Formal leadership experience as a charge nurse or supervisor.
  • Experience with performance improvement processes/tools (e.g., High Reliability Organization, Lean, IHI).
