About the position

The Program Manager of Nursing Excellence at UConn Health serves as a clinical leader responsible for promoting, developing, and implementing nursing excellence initiatives throughout the organization. This role is guided by the ANCC's Magnet Recognition Program and focuses on fostering innovation and professional practice in nursing. The position is full-time, located at John Dempsey Hospital in Farmington, CT, and operates on a day shift schedule from Monday to Friday.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, coordinates, and develops nursing excellence initiatives.
  • Collaborates, educates, and consults with leadership at all levels.
  • Conducts NDNQI database analysis and management.
  • Oversees RN engagement survey and associated action plans.
  • Maintains UConn Health's nursing career advancement program.
  • Provides leadership in the development, implementation, and evaluation of nurse-driven outcomes.
  • Partners with hospital and nursing leadership to develop nursing strategic plans.
  • Oversees and maintains professional governance for nursing, mentoring clinical staff in leadership skills.
  • Develops structures and processes that foster innovation of clinical staff.
  • Implements and oversees nursing excellence initiatives in alignment with ANCC Magnet Recognition Program.
  • Develops and implements performance improvement initiatives and interprets outcome data.
  • Administers personnel actions: recruits, coaches, counsels, conducts performance evaluations, develops staff.
  • Establishes and maintains interprofessional communication as applicable.
  • Prepares and participates in budgetary recommendations, monitors costs and expenditures, authorizes expenditures as appropriate.
  • Maintains professional knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and participating in professional societies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of nursing experience in an acute care setting.
  • Valid RN License in the State of Connecticut.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Nursing or DNP/PhD.
  • Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating new programs/processes.
  • Prior project management or management experience.
  • Previous experience and active involvement in Magnet designated organization or experience in Magnet designation process.
  • Nursing Certification in a related specialty.
