About the position

The Nurse Manager at Henry Ford Hospital is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of patient care within the assigned area. This role involves collaboration with leadership and physicians to ensure quality care delivery, staff development, and fiscal management. The Nurse Manager will facilitate a healthy work environment, oversee recruitment and orientation processes, and implement strategies to enhance employee satisfaction and patient care services.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, develop, supervise, and evaluate all aspects of patient care for the assigned area.
  • Collaborate with leadership and physicians regarding patient care.
  • Ensure professional, clinical, and educational excellence in patient care delivery.
  • Facilitate staff empowerment in implementing innovative patient care models.
  • Manage fiscal responsibilities of the unit and oversee recruitment processes.
  • Develop a high-functioning work environment applying conflict resolution techniques.
  • Maximize employee participation and accountability in decision-making.
  • Implement strategies to enhance employee and team satisfaction.
  • Manage continuous feedback and formal evaluation processes for staff.
  • Coordinate activities with other hospital departments and build effective working relationships.
  • Assume 24-hour responsibility for administrative management of patient care areas.
  • Develop and organize committees and oversee their activities.
  • Coordinate with the patient care team to maximize patient satisfaction.
  • Manage the development and improvement of policies and procedures for quality care.
  • Utilize data to monitor unit operations and develop action plans for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and maintain a safe environment.
  • Assist in the nursing process with patients and families as part of a care management team.
  • Develop and evaluate goals for patient care services supporting departmental objectives.
  • Coach and empower staff in continuous improvement of patient care services.
  • Manage compliance with educational and regulatory measures.
  • Investigate and implement strategies for resolution of quality and safety issues.
  • Collaborate with unit educators to plan and evaluate educational programs.
  • Support recruitment of new staff in collaboration with Human Resources.
  • Complete mandatory and developmental leadership learning opportunities.
  • Represent the organization at professional meetings and develop operational budgets.
  • Manage department finance goals and explain variances.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or equivalent foreign degree.
  • Two years of experience in a relevant nursing position such as Charge Nurse, Assistant Clinical Manager, or Clinical Coordinator.
  • Experience must include clinical care, acute clinical care, emergency response procedures, patient education, advocacy, assessment techniques, medication management, and quality management systems.
  • Valid State of Michigan Nursing License.
