About the position

The Nurse Manager for the Post Partum unit is a pivotal role within the healthcare facility, serving as the first line manager and leader for a designated nursing unit/service. This position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including the oversight of patient care activities, unit operations, and staff functions. The Nurse Manager is accountable for ensuring that high-quality nursing and patient care is delivered consistently to all patients within the unit, adhering to established hospital standards, nursing division structures, and regulatory requirements. This role is integral to the mission of the nursing division, which emphasizes the delivery of exceptional care and the achievement of positive patient outcomes. In this capacity, the Nurse Manager will assume 24-hour responsibility for the unit, which includes managing staff schedules, addressing patient care issues, and ensuring compliance with quality assurance and quality improvement programs. The Nurse Manager will also play a key role in the development and implementation of these programs, ensuring that the unit meets the highest standards of care and operational efficiency. This position requires a strong leader who can foster a collaborative environment among nursing staff, support professional growth, and maintain a focus on patient-centered care. The Nurse Manager will also be expected to engage in continued professional development, demonstrating a commitment to personal growth and the advancement of nursing practices within the unit. This role is not only about managing the day-to-day operations but also about inspiring and guiding the nursing team to achieve excellence in patient care and service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all patient care activities within the Post Partum unit.
  • Ensure compliance with hospital standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage unit operations and staff functions on a 24-hour basis.
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the Quality Assurance/Quality Improvement Program for the department.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive environment among nursing staff.
  • Engage in continued professional development and support staff growth.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Current New York RN license.
  • BSN required or equivalent demonstrated by application of the theoretical aspects of behavioral sciences and nursing administration.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in the clinical area relevant to unit/service patient population, including proven experience/expertise in management area.
  • BLS certification required or to be obtained within 3 months of hire.
  • Masters in nursing preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in maternal health or related clinical areas.
  • Leadership training or certification in management.
