About the position

The Oncology/Hemology Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct patient care in the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role focuses on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. The RN administers medications and procedures according to established policies, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and influences care outcomes. The position requires a clinical expert who delivers high-quality, evidence-based care to oncology patients and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and supervise direct patient care in the Oncology/Hemology department.
  • Coordinate care focused on patient education and self-management.
  • Administer medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes.
  • Complete physiological assessments and document in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Triage patient problems and assist in evaluating symptoms and initiating interventions.
  • Monitor, track, and report ongoing care needs and outcomes to the interdisciplinary team.
  • Direct the provision of nursing education and competencies.
  • Provide a safe working environment while handling antineoplastic drugs and medical waste.
  • Oversee the administration and management of medical procedures and treatments in the oncology setting.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in oncology nursing or related fields.
  • Certification in oncology nursing (OCN) or similar credentials.
