About the position

The Polytrauma/Spasticity Registered Nurse (RN) is a vital member of the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Services (PMRS) within the Rehabilitation and Long Term Care Division (RLTC) at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role emphasizes a holistic health approach, focusing on personalized, proactive, and Veteran-driven care. The position is based in Vancouver, WA, with regular clinic duties in Portland, OR, two days a week.

Responsibilities

  • Serve Veterans with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) related rehabilitation needs and facilitate weekly Polytrauma/TBI clinic.
  • Monitor and track all TBI and polytrauma consults to ensure timely access to care per national mandates.
  • Act as facility RN lead for brain injury questions and education.
  • Provide nursing case management and support to brain-injured Veterans and their families, completing rehabilitation care plans for active patients.
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and communicate nursing needs to the rehabilitation team.
  • Manage and schedule consults for Veterans with spastic limbs caused by disease and trauma to the central nervous system.
  • Order and receive neurotoxin and supplies, prepare consents, set up minor procedure trays, prep patients, and assist the MD.
  • Take the lead role in preparation and coordination of CARF standards for the tri-annual survey, including data collection and analysis.
  • Collaborate with staff on the Comprehensive Rehabilitation Unit (CRU), Community Living Center, and PMRS leadership.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Graduation from a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
  • Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the U.S.
  • Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • 1 year experience in case management.
  • Knowledge of CARF standards.
  • Experience with accreditation surveys.
  • RN clinical support experience.
